LOS ANGELES – 31-year-old “Weird Al” Yankovic fan Erik Clark is attempting to come to terms with the fact that he has no idea which songs the three-time Grammy winner is spoofing with his most recent album, Mandatory Fun.
Clark, who owns all the Weird Al albums up to Bad Hair Day, admits he hasn’t paid much attention to Top 40 songs in a while, but still thought he would “recognize at least ONE song.”
“I was really hoping he’d make fun of that ‘My Humps’ song by Black Eyed Peas. I always thought Al would do a great job with that one,” commented Clark while simultaneously proving he may not have heard a new song since President Bush’s second term. “Or maybe he could have done something with that ‘Jesus, Take the Wheel’ song — like, instead of Jesus, pronounce it Hey-Zeus like you’d say in Spanish or something. I don’t know. I’m spitballing here.”

It also became clear that Clark is as unaware of current events as he is of chart toppers when he thought “he [Yankovic] should parody one of Michael Jackson’s new songs, because it seemed to work well in the past.” When told the King of Pop had passed away in 2009, the uninformed Clark responded by stating, “Oh damn, that’s awful. They don’t get much bigger than MJ. Except maybe Prince. Hey, maybe he’ll release a new single soon that Al can lampoon — those guys have always had a great rapport.”
The outdated fan says he fears the embarrassment of hearing the original version of a song parodied on Mandatory Fun and then blurting out, “Hey, it’s that new Weird Al song!” while among friends. “I’m just terrified I’m going to make an ass of myself,” Clarke said solemnly. “It’s going to be like ‘Livin’ in the Fridge’ all over again!”
When asked how it was even possible he had never heard the Pharrell Williams song — the ubiquitous “Happy” — parodied on Mandatory Fun, a confused Clark replied, “What’s a feral William?”
